Medical Expenses
20% reliefDoctor visits, prescriptions, hospital stays, physiotherapy, orthodontic treatment, hearing aids, glasses (for eligible conditions). No minimum spend — every receipt counts.
Rent Tax Credit
Up to €1,000/yearAvailable to tenants renting in the private market since 2022. Up to €750 per person for 2024, and €1,000 from 2025 (€2,000 for a couple). Claimable for 2022–2025 — up to €2,750 per person in total back-claims.
Flat-Rate Expenses
Varies by tradeRevenue allows fixed expense deductions by profession — nurses, teachers, retail workers, construction workers, mechanics, engineers, and dozens of other trades. The amount depends on your occupation and is applied at your marginal tax rate.
Working From Home Relief
30% of eligible home costsIf your employer did not pay you a tax-free WFH allowance, you may claim Remote Working Relief — 30% of your electricity, heating and broadband costs, apportioned by the number of days you worked from home.
Emergency Tax Refund
Full overpayment returnedEmergency tax applies when you start a new job and Revenue has not yet received your details. The tax rate is higher than normal. Once the correct rate is applied, Revenue refunds the difference — but only if you claim.
Tuition Fee Relief
20% on qualifying feesRelief on third-level tuition fees above a threshold of €3,000 per course per year (first €3,000 is excluded). Applies to full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses at approved colleges — in Ireland and abroad.
Home Carer Tax Credit
Up to €1,700/yearAvailable to married couples or civil partners where one spouse cares for a child, elderly person or person with a disability at home. The credit of up to €1,700 directly reduces your tax — not just your taxable income.
Single Person Child Carer Credit
€1,650/yearFor single parents who are the primary carer of a qualifying child. This is a direct tax credit of €1,650 per year on top of the personal tax credit. Can be backdated for 4 years if not previously claimed.
You can claim back 4 years
Revenue allows you to go back and reclaim credits and expenses for any of the 4 most recent tax years. In 2025 that means 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Claims for each year are processed separately. If you never claimed rent, medical or flat-rate expenses in prior years, all of those refunds are still available — but only for 4 years back. Claims for 2021 expire in December 2025.

How long does it take to receive the refund?
Revenue typically processes PAYE refund claims within 5–10 working days once submitted through myAccount. If Revenue needs additional information, it can take up to 4 weeks. We submit your claim after confirming all your documents are in order, which reduces the chance of delays.
Do I need receipts for medical expenses?
You do not need to submit receipts with your claim, but Revenue can request them during a review. You are required to keep receipts and records for 6 years. Prescriptions, GP visit invoices, hospital bills and consultant letters all count as evidence. We advise clients to photograph and keep all medical receipts.
I was on emergency tax when I started my job. Is it too late to claim back?
Not if it happened in the last 4 years. Emergency tax overpayments can be reclaimed for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. If you started a job and were taxed at the higher emergency rate for several weeks or months before your credits were applied, you are likely owed a refund. We calculate the exact overpayment based on your payslips.
Can I claim the Rent Tax Credit if I pay rent in cash?
Yes, but you must be able to confirm the tenancy details — landlord name, address and PPSN. The claim is made through Revenue's myAccount and Revenue cross-references the landlord's tax records. If your landlord is not registered with the RTB, your claim may be rejected. We advise on what to include to maximise your chances of approval.
I'm not Irish — can I still claim a tax refund in Ireland?
Absolutely. Your nationality has no bearing on your right to claim Irish tax credits. What matters is that you paid PAYE tax in Ireland. Immigrants are entitled to all the same credits as Irish citizens — including rent, medical, flat-rate and emergency tax refunds. In fact, immigrants are among the most frequent claimants of emergency tax refunds because they often start jobs before Revenue has their tax details set up.
What if I already claimed some credits through myAccount?
We check what was already claimed and identify what is still outstanding. If you claimed medical expenses but missed rent, flat-rate or WFH relief, those remain claimable. We don't duplicate what Revenue has already processed — we identify the gaps.
